A coworker pointed me to a web page with a bunch of links to free ebook downloads from the publisher. One of these titles, was C++ Today by Gašper Ažman and Jon Kalb. I downloaded it, read it, and really enjoyed it. Being a youngin' myself, I wasn't around during the early days of C (well, I wasn't programming at least) so it was interesting to get schooled on the beginning of modern programming. I'll save you the history lesson in this post and give you the actual relevance of C++ today, but I definitely recommend reading the full version.

One day I was bored and derping around on codepen. I've heard people say that Go was a great server side language with the speed of C and the ease of use of JavaScript (also I'm just a huge google fanboy). I don't know if that's really true, but I definitely don't not like Go so far. The easiest way to get started in my opinion is to just load up coderpad.io, choose Go for your language, and just play around in the web IDE.
I went back to work on an old project that used Firebase's 2.4.2 library (as of this writing the newest library is 3.X, and there are some big changes between the two libraries. The key is that even though the syntax between the libraries is a little different, the underlying concepts are how you decide to use Firebase for your specific application are the same.
