Hello Command Line
First, you'll have to download the node exectuable.
Writings about one coder's stories & experiences.
This is a basic tutorial for how to get started with Node.js and run node javascript files.

There are really no fancy IDE's for Javascript. A nice Javacscript editor that I like is Sublime Text 2.
Hello Command Line
If you want to use Node.js then you should get used to the command line. Node is meant to run on servers, and most servers are accessed through command line. But you don't need any special programs for that. You can use terminal on mac or run cmd on windows. You should get used to working in command line since you'll be using it a lot working with Node.js. you'll need to get the actual executable file called node that you can run in order to run a javascript file as a node file.
First, you'll have to download the node exectuable.

This has happened to me enough times before for me to be embarrassed by it, and for that reason I'm writing this blog post about it. If you have an if statement that is always returning true (it feels something like, "GAAAHH, why does my if statement always return true!) then this could be your problem (and solution!). I noticed this mistake again today working in Actionscript 3 while fixing a bug in Head Exploder. Here's a simplified version of the as3 code:
var smallNumber:Number = 1; var bigNumber:Number = 100; if (smallNumber > bigNumber) { trace("Uh oh!"); } Inspired by Effective Unit Testing: A Java Developer's Guide, I wrote this post about unit testing and my previous programming experiences without it. Instead of double posting it, I'll just leave the link to the original post here.

He has put together a fantastic collections of links to site and old courses regarding unit testing and software development.
In an early example in Martin Fowler's book Refactoring: Improving the Design of Existing Code he highlights that renaming a variable or method is a legitimate form of refactoring. It can also be immensely helpful to the readability if the code. Here's an except from page 15 of the book:
