I recently participated in a hackathon in San Francisco. I had found the hackathon from meetup.com, but I later learned that it was actually hosted through devpost.com.
I actually really enjoyed the hackathon and definitely want to participate in more of them in the future. I was able to flex my Angular skills (haha), made a bunch of new programmer friends in Cali, and even learned a few things. We used my favorite yeoman generator (of course), Gulp-Angular. I made a pretty sweet custom directive, and we battled with good old css to try to get things looking nice. Going from start to finish in only friday night and saturday morning was pretty intense, but I think it's a good experience to get through the whole development cycle quickly. After all, the most intense part to of the software development cycle when you're about to launch! It really helps you get a sense of what's important for an mvp, managing time and working efficient;y, and of course gives you an appreciation for unit tests (which, sadly, we didn't use for this project). I'll definitely be on the lookout for more hackathons, and devpost.com will be one of my go-to sites for finding them, even when I'm back home in the dirty Jersey.
