As it turns out I'm looking for a new job right now, and I'm working on my resume. I wanted to make a section of the header in my resume so that you could easily click to different sites of mine: twitter, github, and linkedin. The problem was that my linkedin url looked something like this:
While that's not a horribly long URL, it is much longer than the URL in my other two links, and it's just not aesthetically pleasing to look at. After looking around on my online profile I realized that there is a small section in the sidebar for Your Public Profile URL which makes it super easy to change your URL. I chose "jimTheMan" here:
I was then able to put a short nice looking hyperlink to my linked in profile in my resume. Here's a screenshot of how the header of my resume looked after the change (with some fake personal data):
