If you are new to Docker or want a refresher on the key concepts of Docker, Jake Wright has a great video on youtube going over the topic called "Learn Docker in 12 Minutes".

Key Takeaways

  • I love how he sums it all up in the very first sentence of the video, "Docker is a tool for running applications in an isolated environment".

  • Awesome diagram explaining what you do with a Dockerfile and how it is the blueprint for an image.

  • He uses a 3 line Dockerfile (that is a wrapper around a generic php Docker container) to get a php "Hellow World" running.

  • Shows how to mount a Docker image to a local directory so the running container will update when your local files update (useful for developing on running docker container)

Overall

This 12 minute video covers the core concepts of Docker. It gets you up and running, and it shows you the basic commads you need to build and run docker containers. It obviously does not cover everything you could know about Docker, but I would recommend it to anyone trying to learn Docker. Thanks Jake.
