I've been using this program for a while now, but I haven't actually blogged about it yet. This tool is free. It's available on Mac. You can find the download link for it on this page: http://www.derlien.com/downloads/index.html I just tried to update Xcode, and it needed a whopping 8.39gb of memory! Sadly, I didn't have enough memory on my computer to install the updates. :'( Luckily, I was able to just open up Disk Inventory X to visually see all of the files, applications, and things taking up space on my hard drive. Look at the two turquoise squares on the left side of the visual map. These represent virtual machine windows operating systems in virtual box. They each took up almost 8gb, and I was not even using them anymore! Moral of the StoryThe moral of the story is that Disk Inventory X is a free Mac program that allows you to visually see things on your computer drawn proportionately to file size which allows you to quickly and easily delete things on your computer to free up the most space.
