Duplicate Action Extension In VS Code

Visual Studio Code has surprisingly evolved to become my code editor of choice now. It's lightweight, has a great git diff tool, and supports pretty much any coding language you can think of (well, with extension or two maybe).

Don't Ask Me Why It's Not There

Although extensions are great, this is one thing that I thing could have been promoted to the base VS Code platform. I can't tell you how many times I had copied some text, then wanted to duplicate a file and use that text, but couldn't do that and had to lose the text in my clipboard just so I could copy a file. AAARRRRRGGGGGGHHH!! Personally, I think it is totally ridiculous that this feature is an extension and not built into VS Code, but hey, it's not like it's that hard to install an extension. hehe

The Duplicate Action Extension

The extension for duplicating files is somewhat confusingly named, "Duplicate action". If you open the extensions panel (Code -> Preferences -> Extensions or the four cubes button in the sidebar) and type "duplicate" it should be the first option.

Just install that, restart VS Code, and you're good to go! Then you can right-click on files and duplicate 'til the cows come home! 🎉
